United Way of Marshall County seeks to improve community conditions for everyone by investing donated dollars in programs that deliver meaningful and measurable results – all to create lasting change in Marshall County. Funding decisions are made by community volunteers who are committed to creating opportunities for a better life for all. These investment volunteers evaluate applications from potential grantees and make funding recommendations to our Board of Directors.

Organizations eligible to apply must be nonprofit health or human service agencies that serve residents of Marshall County, Alabama and address at least one of the community’s four critical focus areas: education, financial stability, health, or basic needs. The following requirements MUST be met by the organization to be considered to receive United Way funding.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Serve all of Marshall County, Alabama.
- Have a current 501(c)(3) tax status.
- File an applicable Form 990, Form 990EZ, or Form 990N with the IRS annually.
- Conduct an annual audit according to GAAP (Generally Accepted Auditing Principles) by an independent CPA or provide other detailed financial statements as determined based on the organization’s annual revenue. See below for financial documentation requirements.
- Annual Revenue of $250,000 and Above - GAAP (Generally Accepted Auditing Principles) Audit by Independent CPA
- Annual Revenue of $50,000 to $249,999 - Review by Independent CPA
- Annual Revenue of $49,999 and Less - Annual Financial Statement
- Maintain an active Board of Directors consisting of at least 6 members from the local community.
- Have an established Charter of Incorporation and By-Laws.
- Obtain or carry a current license and accreditation to deliver services (if applicable).
- Offer a sliding fee scale policy (if applicable).
- Maintain a board-adopted non-discrimination policy for personnel and service delivery.
- Produce an Annual Report of services delivered and overall community impact.
- Have been in operation for a minimum of one year.
In addition to the above requirements, all organizations/agencies who are selected for funding must submit quarterly reports to United Way and have a representative attend the bi-annual partner agency meetings.
