2015 Day of Caring/Campaign Kick-off Set for September 15

UNITED WAY'S DAY OF CARING/CAMPAIGN KICK-OFF SET FOR SEPTEMBER 15                                                                                                                             

GUNTERSVILLE, Ala….United Way of Marshall County is preparing for its 18th Annual Day of Caring and inviting area companies, organizations and individuals to participate by adopting a project for a nonprofit agency in Marshall County.  This year’s event will be held Tuesday, September 15.  Day of Caring will begin at 7:30 a.m. with a breakfast held at the First Baptist Church of Albertville.  Participation in Day of Caring is open to everyone.  Breakfast tickets and t-shirts are free to participating project volunteers.  For community members wishing to attend the breakfast, advance tickets are required at $8 each and t-shirts are $6 each.    

“The Day of Caring event is the celebration of a community coming together to benefit so many of the local nonprofit agencies that work hard every day to make Marshall County a better place to live and work,” commented Carrie Thomas, United Way’s Day of Caring Coordinator.  “It also promotes the value of volunteerism and demonstrates that neighbors helping neighbors can create positive change in the lives of children, families and seniors.” 

This year, there are over 100 projects up for adoption. For a list of projects available for adoption this year, please click here.  A few of the projects up for adoption include – reading to and playing with children, painting and renovating projects at Camp Trico, delivering meals to the elderly and homebound, hands-on building and repair projects, various collection drives, and more.  These projects will assist such agencies and programs as Child Development Centers, Salvation Army, Foster and Adoptive Parents Association, CAJA, Child Advocacy Center, American Red Cross, Hospice of Marshall County, Tennessee Valley Family Services/Ogden House Shelter, CASA, Family Services of North Alabama, Marshall County Guardianship Program, Marshall County Home Place, Marshall County Homeless Ministries (Room in the Inn), Marshall County Arc, Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Meals on Wheels, RSVP and other worthwhile agencies in Marshall County. 

Day of Caring also kicks-off United Way’s 2015/2016 fundraising campaign.  This year’s campaign goal will be announced along with the total already raised through this year’s pacesetter companies.  Armed with the theme, “Be the One”, this year’s campaign is lead by Campaign Chair Steven Knowles.
