United Way Small Business Blitz in October

GUNTERSVILLE, Ala….United Way of Marshall County is conducting its annual Small Business Blitz this month in which volunteers will be contacting small businesses face-to-face or by phone asking them to contribute to the 2013/2014 United Way Campaign.  The United Way Small Business Blitz is held in partnership with WQSB 105.1 in Albertville, WAFN Fun 92.7 in Arab and WTWX 95.9 in Guntersville.  On October 29, all small businesses that have made a contribution or pledge on or before that date will be announced on the air from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.  The amount collected will help United Way reach its campaign goal this year of $725,000 to help fund 21 partner agencies and programs that will provide direct services to Marshall County residents in need.

This year’s effort is led by the Campaign Co-Chairs in each of the major cities in Marshall County: Mike Price (Citizens Bank and Trust) in Albertville, Ed Childress (Syncro Corporation) in Arab, Steve Davis (bpimedia group) in Boaz and Charlie Williams (Citizens Bank and Trust) in Guntersville.  Each of the chairs has enlisted a team of volunteers to canvas their designated city, visit small businesses and pick up donations.

United Way’s annual campaign began August 1 with a number of local businesses that volunteered to run United Way Pacesetter campaigns.  Thanks to these Pacesetters, approximately 43 percent or $312,415.70 has been pledged towards meeting this year’s goal.  The focus continues as campaign volunteers and staff work diligently to reach out to donors through corporate, employee, individual and leadership giving.

“Last year’s Small Business Blitz raised almost $20,000,” commented Jeannie Lyle, Executive Director of United Way of Marshall County.  “The small business owners in Marshall County have been supportive of United Way in the past and we are counting on them again this year.”
