United Way Exceeds Goal; Celebrates Community's Generosity

The employees of Mitchell Grocery received the 2013/2014 Best Employee Giving Award for the most employee campaign contributions. 

UNITED WAY EXCEEDS GOAL; CELEBRATES COMMUNITY’S GENEROSITY

GUNTERSVILLE, Ala….March 3, 2014....United Way of Marshall County celebrated the community’s generosity at its Annual Meeting and Campaign Celebration at the Guntersville Senior Center on February 27.  The celebration recognized companies and organizations throughout Marshall County that conducted outstanding United Way workplace campaigns in 2013.  During the Campaign Chairman’s Report, Chairman Steve Marshall, District Attorney for Marshall County, announced that $742,999.48 had been raised for the 2013/2014 Campaign which is almost $18,000 more than the goal set for the year’s campaign.  The fundraising campaign, which began in August 2013, was led by a co-chair from each of the major cities in Marshall County: Mike Price (Citizens Bank and Trust) in Albertville, Ed Childress (Syncro Corporation) in Arab, Steve Davis (bpimedia group) in Boaz and Charlie Williams (Citizens Bank & Trust) in Guntersville. 

“Today, we are celebrating the impact that this campaign will make on the lives of many people in Marshall County,” commented Campaign Chair Steve Marshall.  “Through the outstanding efforts and generosity of so many companies and individuals in this community, United Way agencies will continue to make a difference in the communities in which we work and live.”

In addition to the Chairman’s Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards and the Unity Awards, three new awards were presented at this year’s celebration: 

Best Overall Campaign Award presented to Progress Rail Services for largest overall corporate campaign and top contributor for this year’s campaign.  Progress Rail employees contributed $34,463.00 and the corporation matched their contributions dollar for dollar for a total of $68,926.00.

  • Best Employee Giving Award presented to Mitchell Grocery for the most employee campaign contributions.  Mitchell Grocery employees contributed a total of $34,690.00 toward this year’s campaign. 
  • LIVE UNITED Award presented collectively to Paragon Decors, Propac Images and Specialty Matboard for exemplifying United Way’s core goals of Give, Advocate and Volunteers throughout the year.

In addition, 2014 United Way Board President Clint Maze delivered the organization’s 2013 Annual Report to the Community which highlighted what has been accomplished here in Marshall County through generous donor dollars.  Through the support and efforts of many, United Way of Marshall County funded 21 partner agencies that helped make our communities stronger.  These agencies helped approximately 33,000 people in Marshall County last year and focused on improving lives in the areas of education, income and health.  These agencies and programs include: 2-1-1 First Call for Help, 4-H  Clubs of Marshall County, American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, CASA of Marshall County, Child Advocacy Center, Child Development Centers of Marshall County, Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Court Appointed Juvenile Advocates (CAJA), Family Services of North Alabama, Food Bank of North Alabama, Marshall County Foster and Adoptive Parents Association, Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama, Hospice of Marshall County, Marshall County Arc, Marshall County Home Place, Meals on Wheels, RSVP Income Tax Preparation, Shepherd’s Cove, The Salvation Army and TVFS/Ogden House Shelter. 

Additionally, dollars are being invested in initiative programs that impact current and emerging community issues and leverage additional community resources.  These programs include: Day of Caring, School Supply Drive, and Can-a-thon.
