United Way Celebrates Successful Campaign and Other Milestones

GUNTERSVILLE, Ala….United Way of Marshall County celebrated the community’s generosity at its Annual Meeting and Campaign Celebration at the Guntersville Senior Center on February 28.  The celebration recognized companies and organizations throughout Marshall County that conducted outstanding United Way workplace campaigns in 2012.  The event also recognized the 125-year anniversary of the national organization of United Way as well as United Way of Marshall County’s 20 years of county-wide service.  Campaign Chair Steve Marshall, District Attorney for Marshall County, addressed more than 140 campaign volunteers and supporters who attended the event.   

“I am thrilled to announce that we not only met our goal of $700,000, but we exceeded it,” commented Campaign Chair Steve Marshall.  “Through the outstanding efforts and generosity of so many companies and individuals in this community, $718, 479.41 has been raised toward this year’s campaign and that number is still growing.  Many lives will be touched by your gifts.”

Progress Rail Services was recognized as the number one company for its outstanding employee campaign, which was the largest workplace campaign in Marshall County.  Progress Rail employees contributed $29,904.98 and the corporation matched their contributions dollar for dollar for a total of $59,809.96.  The top twenty contributors for this year’s campaign include:

In addition, Laura Casey, 2012 United Way Board President, delivered the organization’s 2012 Annual Report to the Community which highlighted what has been accomplished here in Marshall County through generous donor dollars.  Through the support and efforts of many, United Way of Marshall County funded 22 partner agencies that helped make our communities stronger.  These agencies helped approximately 33,000 people in Marshall County last year and focused on improving lives in the areas of education, income and health.  These agencies and programs include: 2-1-1 First Call for Help, 4-H  Clubs of Marshall County, American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, CASA of Marshall County, Child Advocacy Center, Child Development Centers of Marshall County, Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Court Appointed Juvenile Advocates (CAJA), Easter Seals of Alabama – Marshall County Chapter, Family Services of North Alabama, Food Bank of North Alabama, Marshall County Foster and Adoptive Parents Association, Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama, Hospice of Marshall County, Marshall County Arc, Marshall County Home Place, Meals on Wheels, RSVP Income Tax Preparation, Shepherd’s Cove, The Salvation Army and TVFS/Ogden House Shelter. 

Additionally, dollars are being invested in initiative programs that impact current and emerging community issues and leverage additional community resources.  These programs include: Day of Caring, “For the Kids” School Supply Drive, E-Day of Action and Can-a-thon.
